What is an Academic Week?

Academic Week is a week-long event where students from different grade levels engage in friendly academic competitions. It serves as an opportunity to showcase their talents, skills, and knowledge across various subject areas.

This year’s Academic Week took place from June 17 to June 21, 2025, and concluded with an awarding ceremony. The event was organized exclusively for the Primary Department, with multiple activities happening simultaneously across different grade levels.

The week was a vibrant display of learning, creativity, and healthy competition. It not only reinforced academic concepts but also encouraged students to express themselves through art, language, technology, and public speaking.

CHILDREN'S DAY CELEBRATION

Children’s Day was celebrated with joy and enthusiasm across both the primary and high school levels.

In the primary school, students enjoyed a fun-filled day of games, a shared potluck meal, dancing, and laughter with their friends and classmates. Grades 1 and 2 students also participated in hands-on culinary activities, where they learned how to prepare and cook simple dishes. They were also taught the importance of cleanliness by washing and caring for their utensils properly.

Over at the high school, students organized a vibrant mini bazaar, selling food, drinks, and various other items. The event fostered a lively atmosphere of teamwork, entrepreneurship, and celebration.

It was a meaningful day filled with joy, learning, and community spirit—truly embodying the essence of Children’s Day.

Spirit Week

From October 27 to 31, the MIC Primary Department celebrated Spirit Week—a fun-filled week of creativity, excitement, and school spirit!

The celebration kicked off on Monday, October 27, with Hobby Day, where students proudly showcased their favorite pastimes and personal interests. The following day was No Bag Day, which challenged everyone to think outside the box and find creative ways to carry their school items—innovation at its finest!

Midweek brought Pajama Day, when students came to school in their coziest sleepwear, followed by Career Day, a chance for them to dress up as their future selves and share their dreams. The week wrapped up with Twin Day, where pairs or groups dressed alike to show friendship and unity.

This project was organized by the Student Council, under the guidance of Teacher Vincent Maghanoy. The main goal was to inspire curiosity, initiative, and humility among students while strengthening camaraderie and school spirit.

MIC Wins Most Awards at the Ninth Model United Nations Conference at AISM

The ninth annual Model United Nations (MUN) Conference, organized by the American International School of Mozambique (AISM), was held from March 29 to 30, 2025. The event saw participation from six prominent schools: the American International School of Mozambique, Aga Khan Academy Matola, Maputo International College (MIC), Maputo International School, Birkirk International School, and Trichardt School.

The conference featured five committees, each tasked with addressing global issues: the General Assembly, the Human Rights Council, the DISEC Committee, the Security Council, and the League of Nations. The topics discussed in each committee were as follows:

          General Assembly: Addressing the current state of radiation in Chernobyl and across Europe, and the situation in the Philippines.

          Human Rights Council: Discussing actions taken during the Bangladeshi genocide and the humanitarian violations during the Bosnian genocide.

         DISEC Committee: Debating nuclear armament of nuclear-weapon states and the use of satellites as a threat to international security.

         Security Council: Examining the access to goods in western Berlin and efforts to alleviate tensions surrounding the Korean War.

         League of Nations: Focusing on the armed conflict in eastern Manchuria and the tensions surrounding the Spanish Civil War.

The first day of the conference was dedicated to delegates presenting speeches on their respective countries' positions on various issues. Each country expressed its stance on different topics, either in support or opposition. On the second day, delegates engaged in lobbying for their resolutions, followed by intense debates and interpellations. By the third day, resolutions were debated, refined, and ultimately approved by each committee.

The final day concluded with the awarding ceremony, where certificates were presented to all participating students, along with the First and Second Honorable Mentions and Best Delegate awards. Maputo International College (MIC) stood out by winning the majority of awards, a testament to the hard work and dedication of its delegates. The awardees from MIC were:

         Africa Sitoe – First Honorable Mention, Human Rights Council

         Aliah Dalsuco – Second Honorable Mention, General Assembly

         Tamya da Silva  – Second Honorable Mention, League of Nations

         Mishti Quessoji – Second Honorable Mention, DISEC Committee

         Inara Larissa Momade – Best Delegate, DISEC Committee

         Ranim Kaiss – Second Honorable Mention, Security Council

         Margaret Muleta Masup– Best Delegate, Security Council

MIC earned an impressive seven out of the fifteen awards presented, including two Best Delegate awards and four Second Honorable Mentions. This remarkable achievement highlights MIC's excellence and strong representation at the conference.

Congratulations to all the awardees and participants! MIC truly excelled at the event, and we look forward to seeing the school continue to soar in future MUN conferences. Well done, MIC!
